PC World Infinity - is it worth the bother?

PC World Infinity - is it worth the bother?
-
Infinity - How long the wait seems to be
That's the question that we are asking ourselves and, as you can see from what we have been through this week, you may well agree.
We went into PC World on Monday, because the idea of 'Infinity' sounded good. It is like leasing a computer instead of buying, and you get the peace of mind that if anything goes wrong, you will have it fixed or replaced at no charge. There is more to it, but this isn't an advertisement for it.
We ordered two computers, which we were told would be ready later that day. Upon returning to the Fareham PC World, we were informed that one was ready, but they had placed all the software on the wrong computer, and we would have to return the following day.
THE FOLLOWING DAY.....
We picked up the correct computer the following day, in the afternoon when it was finally ready. It went back to the house with us, where we discovered that the sound wasn't working. An expert went through the info on the phone with me on various things to try, none of which worked.
I was told that if I returned it to the store, they would then prepare the computer again and I could then pick it up later the same day.
THE FOLLOWING DAY... (Wednesday for those trying to keep up)
We returned the computer and were told we could pick it up later the same day. This alone was strange, that we had to take the computer into the store, as the information that comes with infinity states that with Desktop computers, they will come to your home to fix it.
However, I then received a call in the afternoon, informing me that the sound section of the computer wasn't working and they would have to have DHL send one via DHL. A short time later, I received a call, telling me that DHL would be unable to deliver it to the store until Friday and they would let me know what was going on.
Up until this point we had been very civil about the whole thing, accepting that these things happen, not complaining, just waiting.
TWO DAYS LATER (Friday)....
By 11.30 I hadn't heard anything so I gave PC World a call. There was nobody available to talk to me as they were with customers, but I was told they would call me back.
No phone call.
So, once again, we make our way to PC World. I am told, with no hint of an apology and in a way that says 'What do you expect me to do about it', that the computer has not arrived yet. I'm told that somebody will bring the computer around that night, once it has been sorted out.
At 6.15 we call again - you guessed it - the computer has not turned up yet.
7.28 - as I am writing this - no phone call, so I am presuming that it still has not turned up yet.
So, almost a week without a computer in the first week of using a service that we used to ensure that we aren't without the computers.
Have we been offered anything to make up for continuous trips to the store, to make up for the lack of service, to make up for the way this week has gone?
No.
I will let you know when we finally get the computer, I will even write that reply on that computer as a way of celebration.
PC World Infinity - because that's how long it takes to receive your computer (allegedly)........................
Comments
Okay, so it looks like we have come to the end of this.
Just before midday on Saturday, the store called DHL and were told that the computer would be delivered that day. PC World gave us the option of waiting or replacing the computer, of which we went with the latter.
As a plus point for PC World, the new computer cost £37 more, which they deducted for us. Everything is good with this new computer and work can now be done.
Having said that, we have been having a problem with both computers when it comes to Firefox not keeping us logged in to websites when we have asked them to do this. This is a pain for me when I am workign on my own sites and having to continually log in.
I called the Knowhow desk at the Fareham PC World and was told absolute rubbish. I was told that you are unable to tick a box to remain logged in as well as request that the browser remembers your password, as this cancels each other out.
Total rubbish.
I told him that I had always done this before, and he then said that the site must have changed the system (I thought it was because of the tick box/browser request just before that). This means that every site I use, Facebook, Code Canyon, Google, my own, etc have all changed the way they deal with log-ins in the past few days.
Likely? No.
I've been a web designer now for almost twenty years, and I know how likely this is.
I then told him about some problems I've been having with my current computer, the one we got last Monday. It slows down considerably as it is being used and even shows web pages slowly, compared with the same connection on a different, though comparable, computer.
He said the cause is start-up programs. I know this could be a problem, but there is nothing in my start-up that would cause this, but he insisted that that was the problem.
I'm starting to think that our problem was going to PC World and listening to hype about 'always' having the peace of mind that there will be a workign computer and, if there are any problems, the Knowhow team will deal with them.

ReportAs an additional point to the whole debacle, I've just spoken - again - to PC World, ten minutes before they close, and they've informed us that the computer still hasn't turned up.
Yes, this is DHL who haven't delivered it and yes, I was told they would call in the morning to find out why it wasn't delivered. However, surely they should have called DHL earlier to find out what was going on and to find out why it had not arrived, particularly when they know of everything else that has happened this week.
