Don't forget to register to vote by 14 April.

The UK-wide referendum is taking place on Thursday 5 May, and Fareham Borough Council is urging voters to make sure they are registered to vote in time. The deadline to register is Thursday 14 April so if you’re not already registered, don’t delay! It only takes a few minutes: call 01329 824587 or print off the form from http://tinyurl.com/qo8ckz

The referendum is on the voting system used for elections to the UK Parliament. The question being put to voters on Thursday 5 May is: “At present, the UK uses the ’first past the post’ system to elect MPs to the House of Commons. Should the ‘alternative vote’ system be used instead?”

Just in case anyone manages to beat the apathy that has beset 80% of the population in respect of this referendum (or someone in the 20% wants clarification) here's a link to the Electoral Reform Society website.

This details the arguments for/against the Alternative Vote system, so should help those who can be bothered to vote to make an informed choice.

One of the obvious questions is: Are you voting for a Person - or a Party & its Policies? It basically should be a clear-cut decision - unless it really is "horses for courses"?!
