Carshare in Fareham - Good Or Bad Idea?
Council are getting involved with Hantscarshare.com (who kindly point out that
carsharing is when two or more people travel somewhere in the same vehicle –
thanks for that then). But, being serious
for a mo – this is important stuff.
Carsharing is great for the environment, great for congestion and it
saves you some cash! Around £800 a year
on average, according to their website.
But what about the safety aspect of it? That’s the only thing that would put me off I
reckon. My girlfriend is not a particularly strong
woman physically and the thought of her getting into a car with some nutter is not
all that appealing. You do have to
register to take part but that’s hardly a CRB check, is it?
Even the website itself, in their FAQ, don’t seem to address
the safety aspect of it.
But – if you already know people and can work with those who
aren’t strangers, this has got to be a fab idea! School runs (God knows how I hate cycling [my better half is the driver] between 7.30 and 9.30am so the more 'people carriers' off the roads at those
times the better!), trips to sports clubs or out of school activities, journeys
to work etc.
What do you think? Good idea or too dodgy?

What a great idea. Car sharing would always be sure to make for a more interesting journey to work be it with a wierdo or someone quite sane. The insurance is always an issue, I heard that if you do share a car with somebody, to prevent them claiming from you if in a case of an accident, you have to display a disclaimer. I personally would feel instantly nervous if I got in a car only to read that I was travelling at my own risk!!

ReportI share a car with someone who lives round the corner from me. I signed up to liftshare (I think its just http://tinyurl.com/c8ke48) which my work (Southampton Uni) is registered with. If your work is registered, it means you can search only for other people working in the same organisation, and it is validated by way of the correct email address domain - this made me feel a bit safer as you at least know where they work and obviously you also know where they live if you go to their house for a lift.
I've had a good experience with sharing - it's great to not have to drive every day, it gives you someone to chat to (perhaps I'm lucky that he's not weird!) and you can save money.
Oh - and at Southampton Uni if you register for a parking permit and put in that you are sharing with another staff member then the permit cost is MUCH MUCH lower - a win win situation!

ReportIt's a great idea. Would certianly make life more interesting sharing a lift with a complete stranger in the morning !! But it definitely would lead to more co-operation and good will amongst people and might invoke a nice community spirit in the town...........

ReportThis is my reply (a reply is when you read something on a website, then type in your response).
It would be good for those who are working at the same place, or near to each other, but if they really wanted to do something useful they could give you cheaper parking rates for those who car share. Don't ask me how the council would do this, I didn't get elected, so ask those who did ;o)

Reportphysically weak my backside sunshine! (laughs)
and yeah, it's a great idea. I'd be most disappointed if I didn't get into a car with a weirdo! I've got into one with you plenty of times!
