When Was The Last Time You Had Your Boiler Checked?
winter?
Well you could spend the whole time at someone else’s house
or down the pub – or in the arms of a loved one (I am such an old romantic) but
let’s assume you might occasionally want to stay at home and, let’s face it, when
it comes to a British winter, you want that home to be warm and comfortable.
If you’re a private, council or housing association tenant then
under the Gas Safety (Installation and Use) Regulations 1998 you have to, by
law, hold a certificate to declare that all pipework, appliances and flues,
provided for your use, are in good working order. There’s no better time than prior to its peak use to get your boiler checked out.
As a tenant it is the legal and financial
responsibility of your landlord to provide that but there’s no harm in a gentle
nudge in the right direction. As a
homeowner you’re only “strongly advised” to keep a check on these things but
gas and plumbing is really not worth mucking about with – which is why you
should regularly maintain it with a visit from a Gas Safe Registered engineer.
Fareham’s Diamond Maintenance comes highly recommended and
cover all aspects of maintenance, repair and plumbing. J. Medlow is also Fareham-based and several
friends have mentioned receiving excellent service
Did you know that in some cases you might qualify for a
grant to insulate your home? It’s well worth
tracking down a good local insulation firm and seeing if you do. We have some listed in the trade directory
section here including Fareham-based Excel Thermal. If you have used one before, please tell
other readers your thoughts!
Fareham Borough Council also run a scheme you might qualify
for – read about it here.
If you’re the frugal DIY type why not have a go at laying it
yourself? Wickes in Fareham supply roll
insulation as do B&Q.
We wish you a warm and energy efficient winter!
