Fareham's Henry Cort Earns ISA Accreditation 1
Since the International School Award (ISA) scheme started back in 1999, over 10,000 UK schools have gained recognition in developing pupils’ awareness of the cultures of countries overseas as well as a better understanding of their own culture.
Fareham’s Henry Cort Community Sports College has just been awarded the ISA for its second term. The award is valid for three years and back in 2007, when the school was first accredited, they wholeheartedly launched themselves into the role and invited teachers from ‘partner schools’, in other countries, to teach in Fareham while the Head Teacher, a colleague and several pupils went to visit one school in a very deprived, rural area of South Africa. Here they could get the full experience of what it’s like to walk miles to school, have eighty pupils to a class and where the closest thing to a “whiteboard” is a bare wall.
The school worked tirelessly on being reaccredited and the press release on the school’s website states: “Earlier this year, Euan Eddie, Director of Young People's Services visited The Henry Cort Community College and gave an inspirational talk about WaterAid, a charity that uses practical solutions to provide clean water, safe sanitation and hygiene education to the world's poorest people. Euan Eddie shared stories about his visit to a village in Burkina Faso, a landlocked country in West Africa. Encouraged by his visit, youngsters organised a Non Uniform Day and raised money for WaterAid.”
