The 28th of February is the start of Fairtrade
-
Support Fareham's Fairtrade
Fortnight in Fareham and all over the country.
Last year thousands of organisations selling Fairtrade products got
involved persuading over a million of us to swap one purchase with that of a
Fairtrade product. If you’re getting
involved or know of an event going on locally, let us know.
Thanks to the hard work of Fareham Borough Council and The
Fairtrade Borough Working Group, our town has been a Fairtrade Borough since 2007.
Fair Trade is an internationally-recognised approach to
trading that aims to ensure that producers in poor countries get a fair deal. A
fair deal includes a fair price for goods and services, decent working
conditions, and a commitment from buyers so that there is reasonable security
for the producers.
The new Tino’s Coffee House on West Street doesn’t just do
the best cup of hot chocolate in town but they fully support Fairtrade products
too. As do the Red Lion Hotel in Fareham
town centre and the Red Lion in Stubbington.
Fareham’s catering student-run restaurant Chequers are also
supporting the cause along with The Fisherman’s Rest pub, Ferneham Hall and
If you know of any other retailers, florists, beauticians, clothing
stores or anywhere actively promoting Fairtrade please let us know!
Don't forget to look out for the Fairtrde Fortnight stall in Fareham's shopping centre (outside the Body Shop) throughout those two weeks.
Comments
i was dubious about Fairtrade at first because the products i tried certainly didn't give any life to the rumour that the Fairtrade logo also meant good quality. it's the same with organic food and the quality of a lot of that. but it's getting better and pretty much a third of my shopping is either Fairtrade or ethically sourced.
