New Year Resolutions And Getting Fit In Fareham

It’s that time of year again and no, I don’t just mean

Christmas.  With each new year comes a

sense of hope for most of us and I can’t wait to see the back of 2010 for

various reasons I shan’t bore you with.

I expect none of us are strangers to the new year’s resolution, whether

it be to cut down the drinking, give up smoking, lose weight… we make promises

to ourselves that often we don’t keep but why?

The obvious answer is because we’re denying ourselves

something.  We are taking something away

from our lives instead of adding to them.

So would we be more likely to stick to a resolution if we injected our

lives with something new instead?

By injecting our lives with something new I mean something

within our power to do – such as leading a more active lifestyle, adding a few

more veggies on the plate at meal times or drinking an extra glass of water

during the day – babysteps to a healthier lifestyle and none of which make you

feel negative because you’re denying yourself something.

My new year’s resolutions this year are not going to be

giving up smoking (I will one day just please don’t ask me to do it now) or

alcohol (done that already) but I am going to join a gym… or something like

that.  I am not sure which or where yet

but I am determined to get fitter next year.

There’s one slight problem and that is, like it must be for

a lot of men and women with my physique, that I look about as “at home” in a

fitness environment as David Beckham would look at a Mensa convention.  So I have to overcome this sense of fear

first.  I have this perhaps paranoid idea

that the place will be filled with svelte women all scoffing at my lame

attempts at fitness… going huffypuffy and red in the face (and probably subsequently

falling over) after several minutes of anything more strenuous than lifting a

Greggs muffin to my mouth.  I am

determined to get over myself!

What will your resolution be?  Can you recommend good fitness places

locally?  Do you have tips or advice for

those of us having crises of confidence?

thanks local_lou, it might be well worth checking out. i still can't decide whether to go with something more corporate like LA Fitness or something smaller and more personal. i must admit, those two pretty boys they send out round town to hand out offer leaflets give me hope since they appear to only be targeting those of us who can't buy clothes from Top Shop ;o)

Hi BuiltClever. Don't think my situation is that dire just at the moment but thanks.

Most gyms now open really early and close late so there is no excuse to pop down and check out how they can help you. Fareham has LA fitness who offer a free 3 day membership and a free tour of their facillities. Really worth checking out.
