Plans have been unveiled today for a new Super-Egg Production Farm on Fareham Common. Similar in scale to the new Super-Dairy Farms in USA, the Council yesterday approved planning for the new Farm.

The new Super-Egg - nine times the size of a standard hen's egg, will feed a family of four.

Poultry Scientists in America finished research on the new Super-Egg in July last year and production of the egg in the USA began in January 2011. The new Super-Eggs are said to be a breakthrough in sustainable food production.
EU Minister for Poultry, Anne Umlet spoke from Brussels last week:
"During the economic crisis gripping the world, the production of the new Super-Eggs will be welcomed by cash-strapped families. The new larger eggs will cost the same as a standard hen's egg, however just one will feed a family of four. They will require less packaging making them cheaper to produce as well as having less impact on the environment."
Spokesperson from Fareham Borough Council said yesterday:
"The people of Fareham should welcome the news of the new farm as it will bring 2,000 much-needed new jobs to the area. Each chicken requires at least one person to assist with the delivery; as you can imagine the chickens need some encouragement to lay."
However Local animal welfare groups in Fareham have expressed concern for chickens made to produce the Super-Eggs.
Spokesperson for one local group said:
"These new eggs are nine times the size of standard chicken's eggs. On the face of it this seems like a good idea, but little concern has been shown for the chickens forced to lay them."
The new super-sized hen's eggs will be on sale in the UK from October.
