I like Fareham’s history – I think you can feel it - Fareham has documented history dating back to the Norman period and this is reflected in the street and building names. I also like the diversity of culture here, walking along the High Street I see people from all backgrounds and all walks of life, which is lovely. Community spirit is strong here too - we’re not sure about change and we’re happy to express this – good for us! The High Street has, I think, improved in recent years. There are some lovely restaurants, the cinema… I almost cried when a huge participant in my childhood shopping memories, Woolworths, closed its doors for the final time. But life moves on. – we now have Next, and soon Tesco…
Personally I think Fareham is a nice area to live in. The problems that exist here are the same as in most areas – traffic, waste collection, parking… There are changes afoot that may have a significant and permanent effect on our lives here. How will the new Housing Development between Wickham and Knowle village and the arrival of supermarket giant Tesco change the area? What’s happening to our pubs? Let’s see…
