Fareham Borough Council today have warned local residents against bogus home insulation installers. The council's attention has been directed to a number of complaints after residents were duped by companies claiming to represent the council. If you are approached check through the following advice provided by FBC to ensure the caller is genuine:-
-
Fareham Borough Council
The council (or any company) it works in partnership with will never cold call
The council is currently working solely in partnership with the HEATSEEKER scheme operated by the ENERGY SAVING PARTNERSHIP (ESP)
Through the scheme, ESP took thermal images of properties in Fareham at night time during last winter.
ESP will only contact households where the thermal image indicates they may benefit from insulation works
Prior to visiting the household ESP will correspond with a letter from ESP Head Office, allowing the occupant to choose not to participate;
Of course in these cold months of winter, bogus workmen can tempt the unsuspecting into making unnecessarily expensive upgrades on houses or properties. Have you or anyone you know had experience of this?

I feel extremely lucky to be part of a block of flats with a door entry system that allows me to see the person before I even pick up and say hi. Essentially, if I don't recognise them and am not expecting them, I don't pick up! Invariably this sees me miss various parcel and recorded deliveries but it's better than something worse! People should be vigilant as this is becoming more and more of a problem recently.

ReportI have had a bogus workman call and I am lucky because I saw through him immediately. Pensioners and other people might not be so lucky. Good to hear it's been bought to the attention of Fareham Borough Council.
