New Tesco Superstore in Fareham to Cause Chaos... ?

You know what it’s like in Fareham town centre at Christmas,

trying to drive home or being stuck on a bus for thirty minutes on late

night shopping day? Well according to

motorists it’s going to be Christmas in Fareham for a long time to come – only without

the good cheer!

Quay Street roundabout is one of if not the busiest

roundabouts in the centre of town and for the next twelve months work will be

taking place to build the controversial Tesco superstore next to it. This will potentially cause

massive disruptions to all traffic coming in or out of Gosport on the A32.

To add insult to injury, some bright but official spark

thought this might also be a good time to start work on Newgate lane, for the

long-awaited bus link between Gosport and Fareham… nightmare!

I wonder if someone is going to be giving ASDA some

financial recompense because the amount of business they must be about to lose

can’t be insignificant.

I am slightly biased in that I can’t wait to have somewhere

I can get to and from easily to do all my shopping - but I know there are people

very strongly opposed to the arrival of the new store. It will be interesting to see what the

'popular' opinion is as work commences at the end of the month.

Hi - Tesco is sending out more than 80,000 leaflets to homes in Fareham and Gosport to let you know what they will be doing at the junction over the next six months - have you got yours yet?

I live in Gosport and work in Chichester, this is going to cause huge problems for my already 45 mins - 1hour commute either way with a screaming 2 year old on board . I am not looking foward to it at all and the quicker my house sells and I can get out of Gosport the better. They need to stop building and just come up with a decent road structure to cope with the use of the A32, if the road and rail structure was in place it woul bring new business and people to live in the area and give Gosport and Fareham a well needed injection of cash !

I'm glad Tesco is coming to Fareham just because every time I shop in Asda its empty, so it will save me a journey over to Tesco in Portsmouth.

Also as I live in Fareham North I do not ever go to Gosport or use the Quay St roundabout which is a pain.

So I'm glad things are moving along the quicker the better for us.

Tesco are also building a super store in Gosport at Rowner so maybe less traffic on the Gosport Rd.
